SAMAL NEWS || Samal Celebrates World Aids Day
The City Health Office headed by Dr. Dennis Carlos Florez with the Partnership of DAYAW Community Center through the Provincial Health Office, celebrated World Aids Day 2022 with a theme of “End HIV, Act for Equality para sa Healthy Pilipinas” today, December 1, 2022, in the SICC Gymnasium.

World Aids Day is celebrated every year on December 1st since 1988. It provides an opportunity to draw attention to the HIV epidemic around the world. The day is associated with the red ribbon that symbolizes support for ending the known epidemic and raise awareness concerning HIV.
As of September 2022, the total number of HIV cases in Island Garden City of Samal is 73 cases. The City Health Office in partnership with DAYAW Community Center conducted HIV test screenings and educational seminars today to raise awareness against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Jaziel M. Sinadjan – Community Center Officer stated “Ang Dayaw, ang areas coveraged niya kay tibook Davao Region… Nagafocus mi didto sa high risk na mga youth karun. Sila ang among ginahatagan ug services para atleast protected sila sa transmission ni HIV”. Dayaw Community Center is one of the 38 community centers that conduct HIV based-screening tests, Peer Education about HIV and AIDS, safety pantries, and HIV counseling. DCC is under the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines- Davao Chapter.

The Office of the City Mayor represented by Executive Assistant Guillermo Olden extended its full support and said “In behalf of City Mayor Al David Uy, whatever be the program pertaining HIV and other related activity, We will associate with health organizations para magpadayon ang atong paghatag ug awareness sa tanang tao dire sa Samal.”
Also present in the celebration were representatives of the Office of the Vice Mayor and Sanguniang Panlungsod, and
speakers of the said event.
